1979 Lester Leahy West Milwaukee.gifMr. Laehy was born August 25, 1899 at Green Lake, Wisconsin and spend his early life at Chippewa Falls where he graduated from High School. Leahy received his teachers training at Eau Claire State Teachers College and his degree from Carroll College. His first teaching position was at Knapp. From there Leahy went to teach at West Milwaukee where he started the wrestling program in 1935 and was the head coach there until 1952.

During his coaching tenure at West Milwaukee Leahy's team won the State Championship in 1948. He had 13 Individual State Champions including the first 3-time champion in the history of Wisconsin wrestling -- Don Hafemen. Prior to his coaching days, Leahy wrestled professionally under the name of Buck Myers.
